GREATNESS BEYOND THE BANDROOM
The "Versatile 100" Marching Band, rooted in I. C. Norcom High School's maroon and grey tradition, boasts a remarkable history dating back to its establishment in 1946 by the dedicated efforts of the Citizens Band Committee of Portsmouth, VA. Under the skilled direction of Mr. Derrick Copeland, the band flourished, soon becoming a well-uniformed ensemble. However, it was the arrival of Mr. Emery "Chief" Fears from Tuskegee, Alabama, in 1952 that truly defined the band's unique style and iconic "Versatile 100" name. Mr. Fears set a standard of musical excellence and discipline that endures to this day, making the band a symbol of unity, talent, and tradition for I. C. Norcom High School.
