A Bit About Me

Brittney O'Brien (Horton), a distinguished alumnus of I. C. Norcom High School, has always been a prominent figure in the school's marching band legacy. As a 2004 graduate, her journey began with a resounding impact as she assumed the role of Drum Major, leading the band with grace and precision. Her passion for music and her alma mater paved the way for further education, culminating in her 2009 graduation from Norfolk State University. Today, Brittney plays a vital role in the alumni band association, serving as Historian and Web Master.

Beyond her musical achievements, Brittney has embraced various roles in her personal life. She finds fulfillment in her family as a loving wife and the proud mother of two wonderful bonus children. She has pursued her passion for beauty and style professionally, owning a beauty salon suite and garnering five years of experience as a full-time professional hairstylist.

In her current tenure as Historian and Web Master for the alumni band association, Brittney has set ambitious goals. Her primary objective is to establish an effective media team to document and archive the rich history of the marching band. Additionally, she aims to bolster the program's visibility by developing a robust media presence, ensuring that the band's legacy continues to resonate with future generations. Brittney's dedication and unwavering commitment to her alma mater make her an invaluable asset to the alumni band and the wider community.

Major Goals for 2023-2025 Term

Develop a thriving Media Team

Define the bands social media presence and brand

Build a band archive

The aspiration is to create a Media Team that will capture performances, events, and practices in audio and visual. The team will be responsible for developing content for social media, recruitment material, and our acrhive.

Defining the bands' social media presence will make them visible to potential sponsors, brand deals, and recruitment for the band program. It will inspire current and future band members to strive for musical excellence.

The "Versatile 100 Archive" will serve the purpose of having a digital and physical representation of the marching band's achievements. The archive will house photos and videos of performances and practices, a growing history of each section, and a detailed music library.
